You’ll have to stand in line to get your hands on a hot sausage roll or cream beignet from Irish baker Dee Rettali’s hugely popular bakery, tucked away down a quiet cobbled mews in Bloomsbury. Rettali is the former head of food at the late lamented Fernandez and Wells, and she specializes in sourdough cakes and bakes that keep time with the seasons. In winter, it might be ginger cream beignets and mince pies; in summer, blackberry Danish with honey cream or strawberry and frangipane galettes. It’s a spartan setup; seating is limited to a couple of benches outside.
